I Needed A Super Model

Well not a live one at least. You know how when those beautiful super models put on a t-shirt and jeans and somehow the clothes don’t just look like a t-shirt and a pair of jeans they look way better, very special, cuter.

When I decided to open my Etsy shop I needed a way to make my pillows (here I go again talking about pillows) to look like a super model was wearing them. I wanted them to stand out in the photos and not blend in to the background.
For the past couple of years I have been using my fireplace as a backdrop when taking pictures for the shops and my Facebook page. It worked well for Christmas and Fall but I wanted something brighter for Spring and Summer.

Since I have no budget for a super model and  I really wanted a white sofa, but I have no budget for that either so I have to work with what I already have.
Enter the old cedar chest. My future super model.

My husband has had it forever . It was handmade for a family friend over a hundred years ago. They never had any children so they gave it to my husband. I asked permission before painting and he said go for it. So I ran and got this from my paint closet.

Since I had no budget for designer paint, and I am saving the ASCP andn MMS I have for  a few other projects,  I had to work with what white paint I had on  hand. I wanted a lightly distressed finished that was going to last and not peel off. After gently sanding the chest down,  I decided to apply a light coat of primer first.

The next day I gave her two coats of this paint.

Much better.

What I really  loved is that even though I used a primer I was able to give the chest the time worn look I was looking for.  I used a sanding sponge to lightly distress the edges and a few other places.

Then  I put her to work.

The white paint really brightens up the space and shows off the colors of the pillows. I love my super model.

Now I just have to find a way to tell the fireplace I no longer need her modeling services. I hope she takes it well.
I just love it when a DIY that I spent zero dollars on turns out beautiful.

I am already planning my next paint project, and it does not include pillows, or super models.

Blessings,

Joanie
