Fancy Lace Tablecloth Pillows

I know what you are thinking, "Does this girl talk about anything else other than pillow?"
Well right now I am in full blown pillow making mode and trying to get some local shops stocked with my creations after a very busy Christmas and holiday selling season. So for the next couple of weeks I  have pillows on the brain.

One of my best selling pillows is what I call a lace tablecloth pillow.

I buy my lace tablecloths from thrift stores, garage sales, eBay, or flea markets.
WARNING!!!
Do not go to your linen closet and pull out an heirloom tablecloth!!! These are castaways that were damaged or unwanted.
This lace tablecloth was really yellow when I got it, but a little bleach whitened it up really well and now it is going to make some really cute pillows.

To do this I cut two pieces of fabric of equal size because this pillow will be stuffed with fiber fill and stitched closed at the bottom. Many times I will make a envelope closer and use a pillow form, but for now I am just doing the basic style.

For this pillow I have cut my fabric 17" x 15".
I love the corners of lace tablecloths because I think the look so fancy. I love the word "fancy." When I was a young kid I named one of my dolls Fancy.
So, any way lay the fancy corner down on your fabric, like this.
You can't really tell in this picture but I marked the center of the fabric so that I could line my lace point on the line.

The next picture contains an image some may see as offensive as I have cut into my lace tablecloth. You may leave the room, or scroll down really fast.

Once I decide how far down I want my lace to hang I make my cut.

Lace is kind of stretchy so you may need to trim a little once you pin it on to the fabric before sewing.
Once you have cut your lace just pin it onto the front piece of fabric and sew it on at the top.

Then place the back piece of fabric pretty side down on top of the lace. Pin all the way around. Sew it on all four sides leaving an opening at the bottom for stuffing.

Flip it right side out, give it a little pressing and you are ready to stuff and stitch up the bottom. I just use a needle and thread to sew the bottom shut. I make small stitches with close matching thread.

I added a little fabric flower to the lace to make it look even more fancy.

Here is one I made in a ticking fabric.

My favorite is the burlap. I like how the lace makes the burlap look fancy.

If you don't have a lace tablecloth you can just take a piece of lace and glue it or stitch it on a triangle of muslin like this cute and fancy number.

Or even a piece of vintage lace stretched across the front of a pillow looks fancy.

Now back to my simple life for making fancy pillows.
Have a beautiful Sunday.
I will be back in a few days to show you how make the flowers for my fancy pillows.

Blessings
Joanie

I love your pillows. Pillows are now my very favorite thing to make because I can make them quickly. I used to sew all my own clothes, but my eyes aren't what they used to be. I still like to make quilts, but pillows just go so much faster and make a good statement in the house.

Keep talking pillow!

What pretty pillows! You did a great job with these. You can never have too many pillows, in my opinion.
